Talk: Tie Basic Knots

Purpose

Discussion for improving the basic knots article (knot selection, naming, and diagram clarity for readers who have never tied anything).

Open questions

• Is four knots the right minimum set, or should a loop knot (bowline or simple loop) be added now?
• Are the text-only directions for the half-hitch followable without watching someone do it, given only the schematic diagram?

Proposed improvements

• Add a per-knot "best for / never for" table.
• Add a small SVG for the slipped-knot variant.

Decisions

• Knots and lashing are separate articles; lashing builds on the half-hitch taught here.
• Line vocabulary (working end, standing part, bight) is defined here and referenced by other articles instead of re-defining it.
